On June 10, 2024, Xinyi Glass (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd celebrated the inaugural launch of their container ship, MV Xinyi Glass. YB Tuan Khoo Phoay Tiong, Chairman of the Melaka Port Authority (LPM), emphasized, “The inaugural voyage of MV Xinyi Glass is a significant catalyst for Melaka’s import and export dynamics. Xinyi Glass (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd’s utilization
of our port for importing raw materials and exporting processed glass underscores its pivotal role in driving industrial growth within the state. This strategic partnership aligns with our
vision to bolster Melaka’s position as a leading trade hub in the region.”
Operating from the Jasin Industrial Area in Melaka, the vessel embarked on its maiden voyage from Tanjung Bruas Port, Melaka, to Humen Port, China. The event was organized by Xinyi
Glass (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and officiated by YB Tuan Khoo Phoay Tiong, Chairman of the Melaka Port Authority (LPM).
The launch ceremony was graced by the presence of Datuk Ginie Lim, Chief Executive Officer of Invest Melaka; Encik Md Derick Basir, Director of Tanjung Bruas Port Sdn Bhd; Datuk Sin Ket Hin, Managing Director of Xinyi Solar (M) Sdn Bhd; Datuk Char Soo Yin, Director of Purchasing Xinyi Glass (M) Sdn Bhd; and representatives from the Melaka Customs
Department.
The MV Xinyi Glass, the first vessel of Xinyi Solar Sdn Bhd, measures 172 meters and docked at Tanjung Bruas Port where 591 TEUs of imported containers were unloaded and 900 TEUs of export containers were loaded during its stay.
Datuk Sin Ket Hin, Managing Director of Xinyi Solar (M) Sdn Bhd, emphasized, “In response to burgeoning market demands, notably in China, the MV Xinyi Glass will dock twice monthly.
This schedule enables us to efficiently handle an estimated 2,400 TEUs of raw materials and finished goods, ensuring timely delivery and meeting the evolving needs of our customers.”
Datuk Ginie Lim, CEO of Invest Melaka, expressed, “The deployment of MV Xinyi Glass signifies a strategic investment in Melaka’s economic development. This initiative aligns with
our vision to attract foreign direct investment and strengthen Melaka’s position as a prominent trade hub in the region.”
In the long term, Xinyi Glass (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd’s operations are expected to significantly enhance the handling capacity of Tanjung Bruas Port, acting as a catalyst for robust economic
growth across the state of Melaka.
