Melaka marked a significant milestone in its electric mobility journey as YAB Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf Yusoh, Chief Minister of Melaka, officiated the first local production of the MG S5 EV at Pegoh, Alor Gajah.
Production is expected to reach 120 to 180 units per month, with output projected to scale up to 1,500 to 2,000 units annually by 2026, strengthening Malaysia’s growing EV manufacturing ecosystem.
This development comes amid rapid growth in Malaysia’s EV adoption. In 2025, more than 44,000 electric vehicles were registered nationwide, a sharp increase from 21,789 units in 2024, reflecting accelerating demand for clean mobility solutions.
As the industry expands, Melaka is building the foundations to support the EV ecosystem, from manufacturing capabilities to supportive infrastructure. The state is also planning to roll out up to 300 EV charging stations by 2026 to meet the needs of a growing EV market.
Melaka is steadily positioning itself as an emerging contributor to Malaysia’s green mobility ambitions under the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).
The launch ceremony was also attended by YB Datuk Wira Azhar Hj. Arshad, State Secretary of Melaka; YB Datuk VP.
