Melaka welcomed representatives from the Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association (MSIA) today.
The delegation, led by Dato’ Seri Wong Siew Hai, President of MSIA, met with YAB Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf Yusoh, Chief Minister of Melaka, to exchange views on workforce development and the evolving training needs of the semiconductor industry.
Also present were Datuk Ginie Lim, CEO of InvestMelaka, YB Datuk Khaidhirah Datuk Seri Abu Zahar, Deputy EXCO of Investment, Industry and TVET Development, Datuk Mohd Yusof Abu Bakar, Chief Executive Officer of Melaka Corporation (MCORP) and Puan Faz Adnan, Senior Manager of MSIA,.
The discussion highlighted the growing importance of talent development in supporting industries such as semiconductors, particularly as global demand for advanced chips continues to accelerate with the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and electric vehicles (EVs).
Earlier in the day, the MSIA delegation also visited the industry Melaka Centre of Excellence (MCOE) in Kota Cemerlang to gain insights into Melaka’s efforts in strengthening industry-relevant training programmes.
With Malaysia working towards the goal of training 60,000 highly skilled semiconductor professionals under the National Semiconductor Strategy, discussions such as these highlight the importance of strengthening the talent pipeline to support the nation’s growing semiconductor industry.
