The Ground-Breaking Ceremony of Maya Resort Umbai, Melaka marked the start of a new tourism development in the state, officiated by YAB Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, Chief Minister of Melaka.
Also present at the ceremony were YB Datuk Hj. Zaidi Attan, Deputy EXCO for Tourism, Heritage, Arts and Culture; YB Datuk Khaidhirah Abu Zahar, Deputy EXCO of Investment, Industry and TVET Development; Datuk Mohd Yusof Abu Bakar, CEO of MCORP.
The project, located on a 9.16-acre site in Umbai, carries an estimated development value of RM18 million. It will comprise 15 villas, 68 studio units, a multipurpose hall, a swimming pool, and supporting tourism facilities.
Taken as a whole, the development reflects a gradual shift in how coastal areas such as Umbai are being positioned within Melaka’s tourism planning.
Once completed, the project is expected to create more than 200 job opportunities and contribute to local economic activity, particularly for surrounding communities and small businesses.
