The New Japan–Malaysia Industrial Cooperation Seminar held yesterday brought together policymakers and industry leaders to explore how both countries can deepen collaboration amid an increasingly complex global economic landscape.
The seminar featured keynote addresses by YM Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Senior Political Advisor to the Prime Minister and Chairman of MIDA, and YB Tuan Sim Tze Tzin, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI).
Discussions centred on key priorities including economic and supply chain resilience, green transformation (GX), and the growing role of artificial intelligence and semiconductors, sectors that are rapidly redefining the future of industry.
A clear message emerged: the partnership is moving beyond traditional manufacturing towards higher-value activities, including advanced semiconductor capabilities, innovation, and stronger integration with local ecosystems.
For Malaysia, this shift is timely. As global demand accelerates, driven by AI, IoT, and next-generation technologies, the need for resilient supply chains and a skilled workforce has become increasingly critical.
Melaka was represented at the seminar by YB Datuk Khaidhirah Binti Abu Zahar, Deputy EXCO for Investment, Industry and TVET Development and Datuk Ginie Lim, CEO of Invest Melaka, reflecting the state’s active participation in these high-level industrial dialogues.
As Malaysia strengthens its position in high-value sectors, Melaka is well-placed to support this transition, particularly through its focus on TVET development and industry-ready talent, aligning with the needs of Japanese investors and advanced manufacturing industries.
