The Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Waste to Energy (WtE) Project in Sungai Udang marks another significant milestone in advancing Melaka’s sustainable development agenda.
The ceremony was officiated by YAB Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf Yusoh, Chief Minister of Melaka, who reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to ensuring that green, technology driven developments deliver meaningful benefits to the people. The event began with a welcoming address by YBrs Tuan Syahrunizam bin Samsudin, Group Chief Executive Officer of Malakoff Corporation Berhad, followed by remarks from YB Tuan Nga Kor Ming, Minister of Housing and Local Government, who highlighted the importance of strong collaboration between the Federal and State Governments.
Valued at RM660 million, the project is expected to be completed and fully operational by 2029, with a 34 year concession period including three years of construction. Spanning 9.8 acres, the facility will be capable of processing up to 1,000 tonnes of solid waste daily, generating 22 megawatts of electricity, and reducing up to 85% of waste sent to landfills through a circular economy approach.
This project reflects the State Government’s commitment to ensuring every aspect is carried out with discipline, adheres to strict safety and environmental standards, provides high skilled employment opportunities, and supports the development of environmental technology and renewable energy in the state.
