PRESS RELEASE

FE GREEN PET GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY

Hicom Pegoh Industrial Park, April 18, 2024

On April 18, 2024, FE Green Pet (M) Sdn Bhd (FMGP) achieved a significant milestone with the announcement of the groundbreaking ceremony for its new factory at the Hicom Pegoh Industrial Park in Melaka. This momentous occasion underscores a steadfast commitment to both sustainability and economic advancement in Melaka.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of the Chief Minister of Melaka, YAB Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh; EXCO Science, Technology, Innovation, and Communication, YB Datuk Fairul Nizam Bin Roslan; EXCO Youth Development, Sports, and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) cum Assemblyman Gadek Area, YB Tuan VP Shanmugam; Chairman of FE Green PET (M) Sdn Bhd, Mr. Donald Fan; and Senior Vice President of FE Green PET (M) Sdn Bhd, Ms. Eva Luo.

As a subsidiary of the renowned Far Eastern Group, a global leader in the polyester sector, FE Green Pet (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. is poised to make significant contributions to both environmental stewardship and job creation. With origins tracing back to its establishment in Shanghai in 1949, the Far Eastern Group has expanded its recycled PET facilities into Melaka.

With an investment totaling approximately RM 958 million and covering an expansive area of 36 acres, the new facility is projected to create nearly 500 job opportunities in the near future. The FMGP factory is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2025.

Stressing the importance of FE Green Pet (M) Sdn Bhd’s role, the Chief Minister of Melaka, Honorable Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf Bin Yusoh, emphasized the state government’s commitment to reducing plastic waste, driving economic growth, and positioning Melaka as a leading destination for green investments.

“At present, Malaysia’s Collect for Recycling (CFR) rate for PET stands between 28 percent to 45 percent, below global standards. Bridging this gap and maximizing the value from domestic plastic waste requires elevating the CFR rate to 76 percent by 2030.

Aligned with the Malaysia Plastics Sustainability Roadmap, 2021-2030, our focus remains on developing a halal rPET ecosystem to meet the increasing global demand for recycled PET,” added Chief Minister of Melaka, Honorable Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf Bin Yusoh.

Meanwhile, Mr. Donald Fan, Chairman of FE Green PET, emphasized, “The establishment of FMGP not only complements our company’s development strategy but also represents a firm commitment to environmental protection.

Equipped with advanced technology, FMGP will transform discarded plastic bottles into high-value products, promoting resource circularity and contributing to the local economy. We extend special thanks to the Honorable Chief Minister of Malacca and the State Government for facilitating our investment process,” he added.
